MONASCH BY BEST WOOL INTRODUCES ELEMENTS

Monasch by Best Wool presents a new series of woollen rugs inspired by the four elements of ancient Greek philosophy. As such, this collection is a modern-day depiction of earth, water, fire, and air. The result is Dutch Design at its best, with a rich gradation of colours and produced thanks to innovative production techniques. Elements is available in a number of shapes, sizes, and measurements. Like every Monasch rug, the Elements rugs are produced in a circular way meaning that they can be recycled.

Dutch Design by Kranen/Gille and Frank Conrad

Monasch by Best Wool collaborated with Dutch designers Jos Kranen and Johannes Gille on the development of Elements. The successful duo of designers from Den Bosch, together with Monasch’s development department headed by Frank Conrad, is drawing the signature for this collection. This signature is being created on the basis of craftsmanship that is defined as creative, contemporary, and innovative.

Perfect imperfection

What makes the Elements collection stand out, besides the collaboration with Kranen/Gille, is the method in which the imperfection of nature is captured within the wool. It appears as if the four elements have been transformed by an artist’s hand into designs which are suitable for the tufts comprising the rugs. This technique is built on the presence of relatively linear patterns with a certain regularity. Yet, the rugs have an incredibly dynamic, sometimes whimsical and imperfect, look which gives them a natural and powerful appearance. It is like the work of an impressionist that uses streaks, dots and lines to visualize earth, water, fire, or air on a canvas.

Inspired by nature’s perfection

Nature’s perfection is astounding. Naturally occurring materials are incredibly versatile. Wool is a perfect example of this. In addition to its pure and authentic look, wool also offers a number of functional benefits: it is flame-retardant, has significant acoustic value, is easy to maintain, and works as a natural air filter. In other words: wool is a reflection of the perfection of nature and inspires us to create beautiful, high-quality collections such as Elements. This stylish collection depicts earth’ as ‘Night on Earth’, ‘water’ as ‘Poolside Gossip’, ‘, ‘fire’ as ‘Stretched Heat’, and ‘air’ as ‘Air on Strings’.

Each rug is based on a delicate, yet explicitly made colour palette in which a tone dominates, supplemented with a number of derived colours or contrasts. At first sight, this results in a quartet of blue, terra, red, and brown – but that is merely a trick of the eye. While the rugs may share the palette, the way in which the colours appear in the patterns is completely different. This effect is not solely the result of composition and well-planned use of colour. In large part, this is because of the courage to link Monasch’s 40 years of craftsmanship, knowledge, and innovation to the talent and creativity of Kranen/Gille.

Health and sustainability as elementary values

Elements represents the values of the Monasch brand with regard to health, sustainability, and circularity. A natural quality of wool is that it captures harmful dust particles and therefore acts as an air filter. By using the best wool available, Monasch’s rugs are extremely comfortable and sustainable. Furthermore, every Monasch rug is produced thanks to the circular Niaga® technology. This enables the polyester backing to be easily decoupled from the woollen pile so that both layers can be recycled. Once a rug from the Elements collection has reached the end of its life, Monasch by Best Wool will take it back so that valuable components can be reused as raw material.

Monasch by Best Wool is a subsidiary of Best Wool Carpets in Best. This leading manufacturer started producing woollen carpets and rugs in 1982, both for private and professional use.
